Powerhouse students Ryan Ellis, Peter Holland and Jesse Blacker enjoyed one of their most memorable moments as young men , chasing their dream of playing in the NHL one day. All three players, who play in the OHL, are highly regarded prospects.
The draft started with the GM of the New York Islanders,
Garth Snow, selecting John Tavares with the number one overall pick. No surprises there!
Powerhouse Prospect, Ryan Ellis didn’t have to wait long. The Nashville Predators went up to the podium and selected Ellis with the 11th overall pick! The OHL Defenseman of the year, World Junior Champion and future NHL’er was a steal with the 11th pick. Most scouting bureaus had him in the top 10! I hope Ryan likes Country and Western music!
Peter Holland, a nine year student with Joe and Powerhouse Hockey, was selected with the 15th overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks. Joe made the trip down to Montreal with the Holland family and enjoyed a very memorable weekend. The big ultra-skilled centremen was on the Anaheim radar all year long! A sure-fired sniper, Anaheim is looking forward to getting Holland into the lineup. The Ducks have put together a great track record of developing their young draft pics!
The next Powerhouse athlete selected was hometown boy, Jesse Blacker. Jesse, who grew up in the Riverdale area and played for Joe on the Bantam and Minor Midget Toronto Redwings teams, was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 58th pick in the 2nd round. Brian Burke is definately on the right track. Lets develop our own backyard! What a dream for any Toronto boy!
Needless to say, all the families are extremely proud and fortunate to share an unforgetable experience! Powerhouse Hockey would like to congratulate these fine athletes and we’re looking forward to getting back to work to prep for training camp. All the Best boys!
